Special session intensifies political clash between ruling party and opposition

A special session of the Assembly will be held today, where a major debate on women’s reservation will take center stage. Following the setback of the Women’s Reservation Bill and the Nari Shakti Vandan Act in Parliament, the ruling party has launched a strong campaign, labeling the opposition as anti-women. Therefore, this session is expected to intensify the political confrontation, with women’s issues at the core.
Meanwhile, the discussion will focus on the role and participation of women in Indian democracy. After the revised Women’s Reservation Bill and delimitation proposal failed to move forward in Parliament, the BJP has turned the issue into a key political agenda. In addition, the ruling party plans to introduce a condemnation motion to corner the opposition. Law Minister Prithviraj, targeting rival parties, stated that the BJD is now aligning with Congress to oppose women’s reservation.
On the other hand, opposition parties have dismissed the special session as political drama. The BJD clarified that it is not against women’s reservation but opposes the delimitation bill. Furthermore, it questioned why the 2023 Women’s Reservation Bill has not yet been implemented, directly targeting the BJP. Congress, however, asserted that it will expose the ruling party in the Assembly, just as it did in Parliament.
Overall, after the developments in Parliament, the BJP has been raising questions about the opposition’s stance from Parliament to the streets. Now, by convening this special session and moving a condemnation proposal, the ruling party aims to strengthen its narrative and politically corner the opposition.
