₹592 Crore Temple Funds to Be Reinvested; Key Decisions Expected in Puri
The Investment Committee will review and decide on reinvesting approximately ₹592 crore from donation funds in the Shri Jagannath Temple today. The committee will hold its meeting at the administrative hall in Puri.
Notably, the temple authorities have created two fixed deposits from devotees’ offerings, and both have now matured. As a result, the committee will assess how to allocate nearly ₹592 crore. Therefore, members will focus on strategic investments to support the temple’s development and improve facilities in the coming period.
Meanwhile, devotees and temple officials will observe the traditional “Dayana Chori” ritual on the auspicious occasion of Chaitra Shukla Trayodashi. During the ritual, servitors will carry Lord Ramakrishna in a ceremonial palanquin to Jagannath Ballav Math. Interestingly, the ritual depicts the Lord symbolically “stealing” Dayana leaves from the Math’s garden, after which servitors ceremonially “apprehend” Him and bring Him back to the temple.
Furthermore, temple traditions link this ritual to the slaying of the demon Damanaka. After defeating the demon, the Lord accepted the Dayana plant. Subsequently, servitors carry the Dayana leaves back to the temple in a formal procession.
In addition, on the following day, Chaturdashi, temple authorities will conduct related rituals such as Dayana Lagi, Mayamriga enactment, and Sita Chori within the temple premises.
