Kalita Majhi is back in West Bengal Assembly Election ; earns ₹4,000/pm by washing utensils.

Kalita Majhi is once again in the spotlight after five years. For the West Bengal Assembly elections, the BJP has fielded her as a candidate from Ausgram in East Bardhaman district. Active in politics for the past ten years, Kalita is campaigning day and night for the election. Notably, she earns ₹4,000 a month by washing utensils in two households. She has currently taken a month off from work to focus on her election campaign. Expressing happiness over being nominated again by the BJP, Kalita said she never imagined she would get another chance to contest the election. She added that the party’s trust in her brings a big responsibility.

Kalita said that working in others’ homes has helped her closely understand the problems, daily needs, and poverty faced by common people. She is well aware of the struggles of poor families in her constituency. She pointed out issues like lack of proper hospital facilities in villages and the failure of central government schemes to reach the people. She said she is focusing on development of infrastructure and creating employment opportunities. She also mentioned that many villages still do not have electricity connections. The Ausgram seat in Bardhaman district is reserved for Scheduled Castes. In 2021, Kalita lost to TMC candidate Abhedananda Thander but has not lost hope. Thander secured 1,00,392 votes, while Kalita received 88,577 votes.
