There is a viral video which is claimed to be showing Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi.

In the video, the Army Chief was quoted making comments regarding India-Taliban relations.

But the claim has been declared baseless by PIB Fact Check.

According to sources, General Upendra Dwivedi did not make any statement regarding this.

Besides, there was proof of digital tampering in the video clip.

The doctored clip, according to investigations, appeared on social media accounts affiliated to social media channels in Pakistan.

It seems that the intention behind the release of the video was to spread confusion and create distrust.

The target of this misinformation strategy was India’s military and governmental bodies.

More importantly, it has been warned that AI and deepfakes are being used for such misinformation campaigns.

Thus, the propagation of false stories is quick to occur within the digital realm.

PIB suggested that individuals be careful and ensure they verify information before sharing any form of content online.

It was recommended that citizens depend on government sources of information only.

This especially holds true when it comes to issues concerning national security.

However, recently, PIB mentioned one of such claims that turned out to be false.

Some social media handles have been spreading a story of India’s support for the Balochistan Liberation Army.

The fact-checking process conducted on this news revealed that there was no truth to it.

Such a claim was termed as a made-up story by the government.
