Court orders status quo after urgent hearing

A lot of favor was shown to TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee in the Calcutta High Court on Sunday.
The court instantly put on hold the demolition of his constituency office in Amtala in South 24 Parganas.
Justice Raja Basu Chowdhury took up the case immediately, and thus the court ordered everyone to maintain the status quo till further orders.
This urgent petition was filed by the organization of Banerjee called Leaps and Bounds in the High Court.
They argued that they demolished the building despite having legal documents about the ownership of the land.
However, the demolition created a major political scandal in West Bengal.
Trinamool Congress accused the BJP leaders to be present at the time of demolition drive.
Also, Abhishek Banerjee attacked the West Bengal Police with a post on X.
He said that the authorities moved forward with their task despite the case being sub judice.
Additionally, he said that even the Supreme Court had already declared the use of the bulldozer to be unconstitutional.
Banerjee said that it was the police officers, along with the BJP members, who took away the laptops, printers, documents, and even the furniture.
He called them “thieves in uniform.” The High Court’s interim order has temporarily helped the TMC MP.
