Siddaramaiah Resigns, DK Shivakumar Set To Lead

Several important changes have been seen in the state of Karnataka after the resignation of Siddaramaiah.The Congress high command apparently asked him to resign peacefully.This resignation resolved the political dilemma which was prevailing for some time within the Congress in Karnataka.Nevertheless, Siddaramaiah refused to accept the proposal of the party regarding the appointment to Rajya Sabha immediately.He stated that at present he does not want to be in national politics.

Siddaramaiah Urges Congress Unity

On resigning, Siddaramaiah appealed to unite in Congress.He said that for him Congress would always remain like a family.He also claimed that he has no problems with any other senior Congress leader.Political analysts feel that his refusal must have shocked the Congress leadership much as it was expecting from him to accept the post of a parliamentarian in Delhi.

DK Shivakumar for Leadership Post

The Congress legislators will meet on Thursday to select their leader.Karnataka Congress Legislature Party legislators unanimously choose DK Shivakumar.He is likely to take a lead to form the government within two days.His swearing-in function will take place within a week.The meeting took place between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar recently and he blessed him.

Power Sharing Agreement Adopted at Last

The Congress party came back into power in Karnataka by winning the Assembly election held in 2023.Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar both made demands for the position of Chief Minister.The Congress party adopted a compromise formula regarding sharing of power.Siddaramaiah served as Chief Minister for a period of two-and-a-half years.The supporters of Shivakumar thereafter demanded leadership change as promised earlier.This caused dissension in Shivakumar’s party.

BJP Challenges Congress on Account of Crisis

The BJP party leaders meanwhile made accusations against the Congress party over its internal leadership crisis.They argued that the Congress was more concerned with political gain than development of the state.Political analysts feel that the leadership change could affect future political developments in Karnataka.The Congress party would have to take care of internal unity before upcoming elections.
