Officials reviewing voter list amid large-scale deletion controversy in India

2 Lakh Form-7 Applications Put on Hold; Authorities Order Strict Verification Process

The Home Department is really worries about what happening with the voter list. The founding’s out that almost 9.8 lakh names were removed from the list. At the time they have stopped processing around 2 lakh Form-7 applications. The State Governments Home Department, which is in charge of elections has seen a lot of problems with the way the voter list is being updated.

When they started checking the voter list they removed around 9.8 lakh names.. People have been complaining that there were mistakes in the process of verifying the names. In some cases they removed the names of people who’re still alive and living in the area. It also seems that the people in charge of checking the voters called Booth Level Officers did not do a job of checking the information on the ground.

So because of these problems they have temporarily stopped processing 2 lakh Form-7 applications that were received after April 2 2026. They have also told all the Electoral Registration Officers to be very careful. They should only remove the names of people who have passed away after checking carefully. The family members of the person who passed away should also fill out Form-7 applications to remove their names. If they remove someones name they should let that person know by sending a notice to their address.

If they think there are entries or mistakes in the data they should send notices and check everything carefully. It is very important that they check least 50% of the Form-7 cases in person. They should also look into all the complaints they receive through the 1950 call center, email or other ways. Only after they finish checking everything and make sure that least 50% of the cases have been checked in person they will start the online process again. The Home Department and the electoral process need to be careful, with the voter list. The voter list and the Home Department are working together to fix these problems.
