Within the last three days, 125 gas cylinders have been confiscated by the administration. Middlemen indulging themselves in black marketing activities are apprehensive owing to stringent administrative measures taken against them. A special operation is on the way to nab black marketers in the Koraput district. A combined effort is being made by the police, municipal corporation, Supply Department, and Tehsil officials in all the blocks of the district. More than 125 gas cylinders have already been confiscated from 14 blocks in the district.
Among them, 82 cylinders were confiscated from Jeypore, and 31 cylinders were confiscated from Borigumma. According to the district supply officer, the crackdown will continue on a day-to-day basis, and middlemen need to keep themselves vigilant. In another development, the unrestricted sale of cooking gas in the market has been prohibited. According to the minister, only registered dealers or organizations would be allowed to sell gas. In addition to this, the sale of 5-liter cylinders of gas was suspended. As a result of unrestricted sale in the market, black marketeering of gas increased considerably.
