Tamil Nadu woman overcame poverty & marriage pressure to achieve her UPSC dream

C. Vanmathi is a good example of how success can change one’s life through sheer determination.
She was born into a poor family in Erode district of Tamil Nadu.
Her father used to drive a cab to earn money to feed his family members.
Vanmathi was assisting her family members after school by grazing buffaloes and selling milk.
She got her graduation in Class 12 and her family members wanted her to marry at that time but she did not give up her studies and stuck to her dreams.
Vanmathi passed her Master of Computer Applications (MCA) postgraduation and kept preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Exam despite all difficulties.
Vanmathi did not become successful at once.
She kept trying hard and finally cleared her UPSC exam on her fourth attempt.
In the year 2015, C. Vanmathi achieved All India Rank (AIR) 152 in the UPSC exam and became an IAS officer under Maharashtra cadre.
Vanmathi’s inspirational story of becoming an IAS officer from buffalo grazing will be an encouragement for many Indian youths.
