Court warns candidates over campaign violations and campus violence

Victory processions have been prohibited by the Delhi High Court in the wake of DUSU results.
This decision was taken by the court on September 18, 2026.
DUSU results will be declared on September 19.
Processions are not allowed on roads, college campuses and university hostels.
Moreover, the court has also asked about the violations in the course of the campaign.
There was concern over big convoys that used to appear during the campaigning process.
Pictures have been seen of students sitting on the roof and bonnet of vehicles.
There were many vehicles which did not have their registration number plates.
The police has not taken any action against these violations.
The fear has been created among students because of these convoys.
The police reported 998 challans during the campaign.
49 vehicles were also impounded by the police.
547 challans were imposed on drivers without licences.
Six FIRs have been lodged due to election-related issues.
Four students were also arrested in violation of the rules.
The court also expressed concerns regarding the issue of a teacher being assaulted.
The police reported that a student was involved in this act.
The court demanded answers from the guilty parties.
The court had also given show cause notices to the student unions.
It had also sent show cause notices to the candidates over violation of norms.
Reports revealed that there were 140 candidates receiving show cause notices.
The court raised doubts about compliance of the Lyngdoh committee guidelines.
It also took into account the election norms and previous instructions of the court.
The court threatened with exemplary damages in case of violation of the norms.
No victory dances have been allowed after the result by the court.
This prohibition covers processions, drumming, and all other forms of celebration.
The same applies to campus areas as well as hostels.
It is the responsibility of the police to enforce the court directive.
Failure to do so can result in criminal and administrative consequences.
This failure will constitute contempt of court.
Moreover, the court issued a warning regarding the next violation.
The violation would affect the entire election process.
