The chief minister of Tamil Nadu Vijay came to Delhi for political meets.
There is an unexpected postponement in his meet with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
The meeting was supposed to happen on Thursday morning at 10 am.
Congress party leaders postpone the meeting unexpectedly late last night.
However, the official reason for the delay is not known yet.
Vijay Meets Prime Minister Modi
Before the meet was postpending, he met prime minister Narendra Modi.
In the meet, he discussed various issues concerning Tamil Nadu.
He raised strong opposition to the Mekedatu Dam project of Karnataka.
According to him, it poses a serious threat to the farmers of Tamil Nadu.
Besides, he said that the proposal goes against Supreme Court’s orders.
Issue Regarding Fishermen Highlighted
One of the issues highlighted by Vijay concerned Tamil fishermen.
Some of them have been detained by the Sri Lankan navy.
Vijay asked the government to ensure safety of fishermen operating in international waters.
In addition to that, he handed over a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Controversy in State Anthem Addressed
Vijay also touched upon controversies related to the Tamil Thai Vazhthu during oath-taking ceremony.
This issue has recently stirred up political debates across Tamil Nadu.
It is said that he addressed the state government’s stand on the same in Delhi.
Experts opine that the issue will continue to raise political controversy.
Support Sought for Infrastructure Projects
Following this, Vijay held a formal meeting with the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
He sought immediate assistance from the Center in financing the construction of multiple metro rails.
The projects were also about expanding infrastructure facilities in cities like Coimbatore, Madurai, and Erode.
He also asked for financial support to develop highways.
Enhanced Political Importance
Vijay’s visit to Delhi came into light in the wake of his recent coalition government formation.
All these meetings clearly reflect an effort towards better political and administrative coordination.
The postponement of Congress Party meetings further added to speculation.
